Past Lessons, Future Theories
This Saturday my astronomy club, the
RASC Niagara, will be holding a public starnight at Firemens Park in Niagara Falls. It begins at 7 and goes until 10. If it's clear there will be good views of
Mars,
star clusters,
galaxies, and a little later in the night (after 8:30),
Saturn.
You can
put your name on a comet. Sort of. Eventually this satellite will punch a deep crater in Comet Tempel 1. Here's a page with the
goals of the mission, which is basically to study the structure of comets and the origin of the solar system.
A dirty truth revealed or just someone with a grudge?

Morr Music's winter tour is coming to Buffalo this Thursday.
Christian Kleine,
B. Fleischmann and
Ms. John Soda will be performing at the
Soundlab.
There are bunch of music videos at the
Morr Music site. My favourite is
Tied & Tickled Trio's Revolution.
I am often asked about meteor showers. This week's
Leonid shower is happening on the night of Tuesday, November 19. Here's a good link showing when the
best time to observe is, and how many meteors you can expect. For people here in St. Catharines, 2:30 a.m. will be the peak.
I went to a very good concert last night in Toronto. It featured Plaid, Luke Vibert, and Chris Clark. They are all
Warp Records artists. A video for Plaid's
Zeal is here, and one for Luke Vibert's
I Love Acid is here. I Love Acid is pretty much a cartoon of a breakdancing cat, set to acid music of course. In its own way, Zeal may be one of the scariest videos Warp has ever released. I think it would definitely be
too much for much.

My astronomy club, the
RASC Niagara, is having a public star night at Starbucks at the Fairview Mall, on Saturday, November 8, to show people the total lunar eclipse. We'll be in the parking lot outside of the Chapters/Starbucks. Come out after sundown for views of the Moon, Mars, galaxies and other things. Weather permitting, of course, although the forecast does look good, if cold. Everyone's welcome, and there is no charge.
I have uploaded my pictures of the amazing October 30, 2003 aurora display. (Northern Lights). They can be found in my
webshots photo album Aurora, Oct 30, 2003. The first twelve were taken in St. Catharines, Ontario. The next nine were in Niagara on the Lake.
