  A favourite blogger denied tenure Sean Carroll, author of Preposterous Universe, has been denied tenure. I don't feel qualified to comment on his research, and the often personal and political reasons why he was denied tenure, but basically, it's mean he's out of a (day) job.

I have enjoyed his blog a lot in the past few months, and it is one of the few I read more than once a week. He explains physics and cosmology very well, which, I know from experience, is not easy.

I feel bad for him. It was a big blow to him, since he thought he was going to get it.

However, in the comment section, he already has a (serious?) job offer from Nobel Prize winner, David Gross. It seems he will find a new position soon.  ¶ 2:39 PM 0 Comments Links to this post

  Mother's Day = Show Me the Money! Against my better judgment, I was watching CTV's morning show today, and I wasn't disappointed in their regular displays of stupidity.

This time, the culprit was a guest, not a host. Karen Mallett was flogging various products for Mother's Day. Apparently the hordes of "fashionista moms" out there want handbags and makeup.
